Web Design for the Masses
ExpectMore.gov is a breakthrough Web project for the Federal government. The White House Office of Management and Budget is producing the site as a citizen-friendly way to share the results of government agency performance reviews. Designed to enlighten the public and increase accountability for federal programs, the project needed a dynamic image and a clean, easy-to-use Web interface. OMB hired Brook Group to create a brand identity and Web site that would resonate with the American people and build confidence in the government.
What We do Best
We started by creating a memorable and distinctive visual mark for the project and solidifying the brand identity by incorporating the image into the Web site. We then made an easy-to-use site architecture for visitors at all technical levels. We addressed each audience segment with relevant information, including lawmakers, government officials and the public. Following government standards, we made the site compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, accessible to visitors with visual and motor handicaps. Finally, we enabled a search function that allows for easy access to information.

Working Together
Brook Group worked with OMB staff to identify the specific goals of the initiative and define key project attributes. We developed image attributes, which we applied to the visual brand mark, as well as the Web site. For the Web site, we developed an audience matrix document that guided the interface design and information architecture. Through multiple iterations of the design and architecture, informed by focus groups and Federal expertise, we shaped the site to ensure that it addressed the needs of the audience. Our Section 508 specialists participated in every aspect of the design process to ensure full compliance with accessibility standards.
Government at its Finest
The completed site incorporates effective branding, with a simple, memorable logo that instills trust. The message is consistent. A simple navigation system and page templates ensure consistent brand and ease of use.
