How to Make a Business of Homeland Security
Chesapeake Innovation Center has an important job: to harness the power of entrepreneurship to assure that the nation’s homeland security sector operates at the cutting edge of technology. Brook Group’s challenge was to help this pioneering business incubator bridge the gaps between tech entrepreneurs, government bureaucrats and corporate sponsors.
A Site with Personality
The concept of homeland security brings with it the threat of terror. The images conjured up by such a topic can easily travel the downward spiral. Brook Group recognized the importance of designing a brand for CIC that was positive and encouraging.
By examining the psyche behind CIC and the business goals and objectives, we created an image that resonates with the intended audience of business professionals and government bodies, like Nokia and the NSA. It embodies the purpose of the CIC as a bridge between the various technical contributors and partners.
Getting it Right
We started with a Discovery process that probed into the very heart of the CIC, interviewing its top level executives and delving into the inner workings of the company. The information we obtained decided the message we wanted to convey through their brand and site. Ultimately, we expressed their mission as the first business accelerator for national homeland security.
First, we created their visual brand to reflect the concept of “bridge”, both for the bridge which they create between member companies and the business community, and the nearby Bay Bridge. We embellished the bridge with iconography that expresses high technology.
Besides creating a new logo design, we performed a ground up design for their site to reflect the cutting edge nature of the business. We worked with them to develop the content to bolster their image. Clean lines and streamlined content ensure that the message is clear: CIC is a driving force in the advancement of entrepreneurship and technology in homeland security.
Hope Floats
Our design provided a fresh face of optimism and hope for the Chesapeake Innovation Center. The new look was widely accepted and praised, as partners and employees alike remarked on the smart styling and creative design.
Through our process we illuminated the primary goals and objectives, strengths and motivation for the CIC. This information was used for more than creating a logo and Web site; it created a clear vision for CIC and is ever-present in their brand promise.
